Arthur Perlman
Jeffrey Lunden (Music) and Arthur Perlman (Book and Lyrics) have been working together since junior high school in Silver Spring, Maryland. Their award-winning adaptation of Arthur Kopit’s WINGS was produced at the Joseph Papp Public Theater in New York (1994 Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Off-Broadway Musical) and The Goodman Theatre in Chicago (Joseph Jefferson Award for Best New Work/Adaptation). WINGS was selected as one of the 10 Best Plays of 1992/93, and the original cast album is available on RCA Victor. Other works include ANOTHER MIDSUMMER NIGHT (The Goodman Theatre, American Music Theater Festival), ONCE ON A SUMMER’S DAY (Ensemble Studio Theatre) and three family musicals for Theatreworks/USA, including an adaptation of THE LITTLE PRINCE. They received the 2003 Richard Rodgers Award from the Stephen Sondheim society for THE DEVIL IN THE FLESH, a musical adaptation of Raymond Radiguet’s World War I novel.
Mr. Perlman served as director of the E.Y. "Yip" Harburg Archive at New York University, where he created a revue of Harburg’s songs with pianist Dick Hyman and assisted on Who Put the Rainbow in The Wizard of Oz?, a critical biography of Harburg. He is co-producer of Jason and Jeremy Perlman, currently playing on Manhattan’s Upper West Side.
Messrs. Perlman and Lunden are winners of the 1993 Gilman & Gonzalez-Falla Theater Foundation Musical Theater Award. They are graduates of the M.F.A. program in Musical Theatre at New York University, where they studied with Leonard Bernstein, Arthur Laurents and Stephen Sondheim, among others, and have received numerous ASCAP Awards and are members of the Dramatists Guild.
