Kevin Murphy
Kevin is the co-bookwriter and lyricist for REEFER MADNESS: THE MUSICAL and was a producer of the show’s long-running original 1999 Los Angeles production (five Ovation Awards, seven Garland Awards, eight LA Drama Critics Circle Awards), as well as the subsequent 2001 Off-Broadway production (Drama Desk nominations for outstanding costumes and outstanding lyrics).
Kevin co-wrote and served as executive producer for the Showtime movie adaptation of REEFER MADNESS starring Alan Cumming, Neve Campbell, Ana Gasteyer, Kristen Bell, Christian Campbell and Steven Weber. The film (Reefer Madness: The Movie Musical) premiered at Sundance and screened at Deauville (Premiere Jury Award), Berlin, Sarasota (Best of the Fest Award) and True West. Kevin was honored with a Foreign Press Academy Satellite Award for producing the film, as well as an Emmy Award for Outstanding Music & Lyrics.
Kevin serves as Co-Executive Producer on Desperate Housewives. His work on this ABC smash has been honored with Golden Globe Awards (two wins), People’s Choice Awards (one win, one nomination), a Satellite Award, a Prism Award and a TV Land Future Classic Award. He also received a 2004-05 Emmy nomination for Outstanding Comedy Series. Kevin’s writing was singled out in the form of a Writers Guild Award nomination for the episode “Next.”
Kevin has worked as a writer/producer on many other TV series, including Ed, Jack & Jill and Weird Science. He also co-created and served as show-runner for the syndicated series Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. He has written many songs for TV and provided lyrics and special material for the 2004 LES GIRLS charity cabaret revue, in which his work was performed by Allison Janney, Christine Lahti, Eric McCormack, Faith Prince and David Hyde Pierce.
